New RIRS Bulletin Board

We have a bulletin board or forum now online for the use of all RIRS
members. It can be reached by choosing the “Learn!” button on the
webpage menu and then clicking on RIRS bulletin board. Its actual
address is http://rirs.org/phpBB2. It can be used for a variety of
purposes but will only be useful if a reasonable number of members use
it. It does not take the place of the email list-serv managed by Linda
Shamoon; that remains the primary way to quickly ask a question or give
information. Instead, since it is entirely an online process, that is,
with no email, all posts remain available for anyone at any time. It can
be used also for buying, selling, trading etc, which is not permitted on
most list-servs. Different topics will have separate “threads” of
messages which can read and replied to on-line. If there is a
particular subject or question that interests you, you can check off a
box that will automatically send you an email notice when someone
replies to that question or subject.
It is required that you register to post messages. In addition to this, there is a safety feature where you have to input a short series of letters and numbers (printed on the page you’ll be seeing) as you register. The reason for this is because spammers will immediately post junk, some pretty awful, to open forums and guest pages, as I have found in the past to my chagrin. So, please register. You can also use one of the designs or
“avatars” to represent yourself in your posts. This makes it easier for
people to recognize you in your letters. There is no requirement that
your name or actual email address be shown on-line, you can retain your
privacy if you wish. You can make garden or rose society related Polls
in your posts too and the bulletin board will keep track of the votes.
So give it a shot and register. Bulletin boards can be a pleasant way
of chatting with people with similar interests
